Choose the direction before the destination
The U.S. Naval Observatory explains that the sun rises on the eastern side of the horizon and sets to the west. On Clearwater’s west-facing beach, dawn can still give you attractive light on the sand and clouds, but an unobstructed sunrise disk over water calls for a different viewpoint.
If your accommodation faces a bay or harbor, ask which direction the room or a guest-accessible terrace actually faces. A “water view” can look north, south or west. Check for buildings, trees and railings that would affect the sightline before setting an early alarm.
Consider the Courtney Campbell area, with access checks
The Courtney Campbell Beach Recreation Area is on the Clearwater side of the causeway along Tampa Bay. That geography makes the area worth investigating for an eastern outlook. This is a planning suggestion based on orientation, not a promise that every spot has an unobstructed view.
Check access before going: the city’s Courtney Campbell Trail page displayed an until-further-notice maintenance closure when reviewed. Do not assume the trail, beach entrance or parking you remember is available. Follow the latest city notices and posted opening rules, and use only lawful public access. Choose another permitted viewpoint if the route you need is closed.
Get a time for your actual date
Use a date-specific sunrise result rather than a year-round clock time. Confirm that the result uses local Florida time and handles daylight saving time correctly. Build in enough time to park legally and reach the viewpoint without rushing. A predicted sunrise time describes the horizon event; clouds or an obstructed view can change what you actually see.
Make it a light outing
Take only what you need for a short morning stop: a drink, phone or camera, and a light layer if the forecast calls for one. Check the route in daylight beforehand if it is unfamiliar. Keep paths clear for other people and return to your beach plans after breakfast.
For the evening counterpart, see planning a Clearwater Beach sunset. If your stay includes rental gear, BeachDay’s packages are delivered to accommodations; guests carry and set up the equipment. Use a quote request to confirm your address and arrangements with the team.
