Things to Do in St. Pete Beach: Corey Avenue to Pass-a-Grille

Explore St. Pete Beach in two manageable parts: the northern area around Upham Beach, Corey Avenue and Horan Park, then the southern neighborhood of Pass-a-Grille. Add an island boat trip only when you want a separate outing with a fixed return plan.

Stay local by choosing a part of the beach city

St. Pete Beach is different from downtown St. Petersburg. Its own short outings include beach access, shopping streets and waterfront parks. A museum day downtown belongs to a separate itinerary, with transportation across to the mainland.

Use this comparison to choose a local sequence. You do not need to visit all of these places on one day.

Upham Beach and Corey Avenue: sand plus a shopping district

The city's public parking page identifies Upham Beach at 6850 Beach Plaza and lists the surrounding public parking areas. Use the appropriate entrance from your accommodation rather than assuming the nearest Gulf Boulevard address is a beach access. Use designated pay-by-plate spaces and avoid spaces marked as requiring a permit.

Corey Avenue is the nearby shopping and dining district, with local boutiques, galleries and a weekly Sunday market described by its business association. Check dates and market hours on the current events page before making a special journey for a market, street event or performance; the shops and event program are separate reasons to visit.

For a north-end stay, one practical sequence is breakfast, a Corey Avenue browse and a return to the accommodation before beach time. Alternatively, do the beach first, store the gear, then visit the district for an afternoon wander. These work as separate sessions without taking chairs and a cooler through the shops.

Horan Park: a playground stop with a different waterfront

Horan Park has a playground, open grass, picnic facilities, restrooms and a water view. It is at 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, on the bay side of the city. This is a park break, distinct from another Gulf beach access.

With younger children, choose Horan Park as the main short outing after breakfast, then have lunch and return for rest. Older children may enjoy adding a small shopping stop around Corey Avenue. Check current city notices and any signs on site before using particular waterfront areas; a park visit does not require adding a boat or swim activity.

Pass-a-Grille: give the south end its own visit

The city's Pass-a-Grille Beach page lists parking, restrooms and a beachside food concession at 900 Gulf Way. The compact Eighth Avenue area gives you a place to combine a neighborhood walk with beach time. Keep Gulf Way, facing the Gulf beach, distinct from Pass-a-Grille Way on the other side of the neighborhood.

A southern day can start with breakfast, a walk around Eighth Avenue and a beach visit from your chosen access. If you are staying elsewhere in St. Pete Beach, plan where the car will remain and when you will return. Use the St. Pete Beach restaurant guide for meal options and their differing service times.

Shell Key: an optional outing with a return commitment

Shell Key Shuttle identifies its check-in location at Merry Pier, 801 Pass-a-Grille Way. Its homepage asks passengers to call ahead, and its published timetable says schedules can vary and trips are weather permitting. Call 727-360-1348 to confirm your chosen trip, the check-in arrangement and your return departure before leaving your accommodation.

Shell Key Preserve lies outside the beach-city walking itinerary and is accessible by boat. The county lists no restrooms and closes the central conservation area to visitors. Dogs and alcohol are prohibited throughout the preserve. Choose this trip when everyone is comfortable with those facilities and the boat plan; bring water, personal essentials and only gear the operator approves.

Choose a base that supports the local plan

If most outings cluster around Upham Beach and Corey Avenue, compare accommodation routes to those places. If Pass-a-Grille is your priority, investigate the south end rather than assuming every St. Pete Beach hotel has the same convenient walk. Our lodging guide separates downtown, Gulf-front and bayfront options.

BeachDay's St. Pete Beach accommodation delivery lets you plan portable gear around your stay. Guests carry and set it up, store it back at the accommodation after beach sessions, and leave it ready for pickup at the end of the rental. Keep the island outing's luggage rules separate from the equipment you use on ordinary beach days.
